The 2016 Emerging Technology Conference, or ETC, was held at the Emabssy Suites in Norman, OK. All 21 member distribution cooperatives and Altus Air Force Base were represented. Presenters came from as far away as Alaska, and included Leiutenant governor of Oklahoma, Todd Lamb. Lamb gave a state of the state presentation confronting the energy sector. This year more exhibitors were on hand to interact with members and key accounts showcasing their products and technology. Make sure to join us next year.
Oklahoma State University Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater was the venue for a recent GoGoGEOChallenge sign up. Fans attending the OSU-Baylor basketball game were invited to take the challenge and register to win a 50 gallon Yukon Cooler/Locker. The GoGoGEO Challenge is a unique educational opportunity created by Touchstone Energy Cooperatives. Rural electric cooperatives from across Oklahoma sent service-minded high school students to participate at the 2014 Youth Leadership Summit hosted on January 18. To be chosen to participate in the summit, students completed a difficult application and interview process. Participants learned leadership skills through a variety of program activities. Oklahoma Living Managing Editor Anna Politano recently visited Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) headquarters in Anadarko, OK. Politano was conducting research for her feature article in the October edition of the magazine entitled, “You’ve Got The Power”. She interviewed WFEC Chief Executive Office Gary Roulet and toured the electric plant nearby. WFEC is a generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative that provides essential electric service to 22 member cooperative, Altus Air Force Base, and other power users.
Take a visit through Central Valley's new HQ which features gothermal heat pumps to heat and cool the rooms. CVEC is located in Artesia, New Mexico and is one of WFEC's twenty-two member distribution cooperatives. Electric utility workers from more than a dozen member distribution cooperatives attend a recent WFEC Switch Certification Training held in Anadarko, Oklahoma. WFEC instructors were on hand to teach the sessions, and many Transmission & Distribution personnel, as well as plant personnel, were in attendance too. Instruction subjects ranged from OSHA Rules and Safety to hands-on field training at the Sequoyah Substation located southeast of WFEC's headquarters building.

Clearing Right-Of-Way areas next to WFEC transmission lines is important ongoing work. Clear areas allow WFEC crews to maintain our transmission lines. It is especially critical when our crews need to rebuild or repair lines damaged by an ice storm, tornado or fire.
